Dressing Up With Fancy Dress Costumes by Scott Demaret

The selection is so good that costumes are available from hundreds of films that have won Oscar's; and it's not only the big screen characters that are requested but those from the small screen in TV shows as diverse as Heartbeat, Horn blower and Dr Who. Plus of course all the old favorites are still there, saucy nurses, Grease, Superman, Elvis etc. Etc.

There's so much to choose from to make you look just right and you do not need a massive film budget to hire a slice of Hollywood glamour for the day!

You can create seasonal party themes, have a theme for Hen Nights, Stag Nights, Hawaiian parties, Halloween, Christmas and the options are endless and all available. The days of trying to transform those old clothes from your wardrobe (not always successfully!) have long gone.

WIGS (including outrageous pink, blue, green along with the glamorous), MASKS and much more are also available for hire, along with all the accessories required to complete the full look - the options are limitless and so much fun!

The initial thought of most people when coming up with fancy dress party ideas is to hire a fancy dress costume which used to involve trundling down to the nearest shop which was often quite a distance away. Now however, with the World Wide Web Fancy dress costume hire has the advantage of being able to be ordered online and you can then simply return the costume after the party.

You can sit and browse all the costumes available so that you can come up with that something different to give you the "wow" factor and keep everyone guessing as to who is under the costume when you arrive.

THE ORIGIN OF FANCY DRESSThe origins of fancy dress costumes and that of a fancy dress party can be traced right back to the fifteenth century in Italy when the first masked balls were held.

These balls then developed into public festivities where elaborate dances were performed in fancy-dress costumes, mostly for the upper class, these became especially popular in Venice, Italy.Masquerade fancy dress balls only really became popular in the UK during the eighteenth century and it was only by the Victorian era when anything similar to the fancy dress parties which are known and are so popular today were being held in the UK.

Queen Victoria herself was quite fond of fancy dress and her personal interest in British history resulted in the popularity of historical characters and historical themes for Fancy Dress balls during much of the 19th century. By the mid nineteenth century, fancy dress parties were held for almost any occasion, both private and public.

The majority of costumes continued to be based upon historical styles, which were thought to be in better taste than exotic or humorous ones.
