Collecting Pieces Of History As Art by Victor Epand

The word 'history' has such a wide conotation. It can mean anything from the past or something meaningful in a person's life before. To me it's a combination of both the past in general and something that was extremely meaningful previously in my life.

I came from the seventies era. Those were the times of ABBA, "Grease"...John Travolta's first movie, Donny & Marie Osmond. Yeah, it might sound corny to you now, but in those days...it was the "in thing". The pants we wore were called "bell bottoms" You guess right! The bottoms were the sizes of a bell! Mind you...they were comfortable though. Enough of nostalgia, the thing is whatever era that we grew up in; there is always something that were of personal value to us and a part our culture and nation's history.

Take for example President John F. Kennedy, the day that he was assassinated, he become a part of this great nation's history. In fact every year we commemorate the anniversary of his death. So powerful is the aura of this man that an entire cottage industry in collectibles has sprung up around this man. Imagine that a white house crystal ashtray during his era will cost $995 today? Photographs of him have also become collectible arts fetching hundreds of dollars. "Here is an opportunity to own a rare and wonderful piece of history from the days of Camelot!" that's the sales tag line.

Whatever that is been offered for sale, people still flock to buy them because it's our way of preserving history...a piece of us which has become very dear to our hearts. JFK was a part of the nation. and when he died, he become a part of us too. Collecting memorabilia of him is our way of remembering and preserving his legacy and history.

In short, anything that is to become a collectible must have a piece of history. That is why autographed celebrity photos are very much sought after because of the history of the celebrity. Their signatures in essences become autographed arts. If you want to know more about celebrity collectibles, the Internet is a good place to begin your search for more information.

If you do your homework right, autograph collecting could be a profitable venture. Not only do you get to enjoy the value of your collections but in time it will only become more and more valuable not just to you but also to potential buyers. Many of our history can be found in photos, documents of various natures. But whatever it is, they will remain part and parcel of our culture, history and as well as a part of us.

Collecting and keeping them is our way of saying that we remember where we came from. Celebrity collectibles will ensure that you keep your piece of history which holds its own special meaning to you. With so many people treating this as a hobby you could even consider using this hobby as a business. But then again you do not want to let work get in the way of pleasure.
