'Gimme Shelter' was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards in 1969 about the political and social unrest of the time. Jagger in a 1995 interview says, ""Well, it's a very rough, very violent era. The Vietnam War. Violence on the screens, pillage and burning. And Vietnam was not war as we knew it in the conventional sense..." On the song itself, he concluded, "That's a kind of end-of-the-world song, really. It's apocalypse; the whole record's like that."
RH S2EP10, the political and social upheaval as shown in the series and the reality of what could have happened had the troops gone in to raze Nottingham. Mix in a bit of emotional conflict and angst courtesy of Sir Guy of Gisborne and that's the vid in a nutshell.
This has always been my favorite Stones song and finally, finally I figured a way to do a RH vid to it! Yay me!
